A
Academic Period
See Academic Year.
Academic Year
The period of the year during which students attend an educational
institution. In Grado, it is the basis or is tied to the student's
progress in the curriculum as well as section schedules and offerings.
Account
Refers to different user accounts. See User Account
Types.
Add Matriculation
Refers to registration of additional subjects after enrollment.
Administrator (abbr. Admin)
A user who has access to Admin Type
accounts.
Adviser
User with Faculty Account type given
with the ability to approve or reject a specific student's reserved
subjects.
Advising
Process by which a member of the faculty evaluates a student's enlisted
subjects and advises accordingly whether to approve or disapprove based
student's course eligibilities and requirements.
Assessment
Process by which all fees that student is required to settle are
computed. See Assessments Module.
AWOL
Short for absence without leave; refers to a student status that
carries with it restrictions in terms of enrollment of courses.
B
Base Curriculum
Curriculum common to all specializations within a degree program.
Batch
Usually used to categorize students based on either year of entry or
expected year of graduation.
Building
Rooms assigned for each section are grouped according to buildings;
reference the location of where a room is located or housed. Also see
Setup Module,
Facilities.
C
Change Matriculation
The process of changing a course after enrollment.
Course
Used interchangeably with Subject.
Course Code
Used interchangeably with Subject Code, Course Number, or Subject
Number.
Credit
Used interchangeably with Unit; usually measured in terms of hours.
Curriculum
List of course requirements for a degree program and specialization
organized according to year level and term.
Curriculum Checklist
List of courses based on the student's curriculum where credited grades
and courses show.

Degree Program
Also known colloquially as the student course or course program.
Department
An administrative or academic division under a college.
Discipline
A cluster of subjects, any of which to the student can take to satisfy
the requirement (such as electives).
Division
A unit under which departments and degree programs are created.
Dropping
Removal of a student from an enrolled section.
E
Eligibility
Status whether a student is allowed to do a particular action. Currently
eligibility features are enrollment, block enrollment, and regularity
eligibilities.
Enrollment
The process of officially registering as a student in a section or
sections for a given academic year or term.
Enrollment (Section)
Enrollment to a predefined set of subjects assigned on some basis, such
as degree program or group; initially called as "block section" in ver.
6-below.
Enrollment (Individual)
Enrollment to individual subjects instead of a set of subjects.
F
Faculty
A teaching staff of the educational institution. Required to create
sections and can be tapped as advisers for students marked as irregular.
Fee
Charges apart from the tuition, such as miscellaneous fees, energy fees,
library fees, penalties, etc.
Fee Type
Fees can either be percentage of a given value or raw amount.
G
Grades
Students' measure of performance in a subject. Grades given are based on
the Transmutation table associated with the subject.
I
Intent
When a student enlists a section but has not reserved it yet, the
student is said to have an intent to enroll on that section.
L
LOA
Refers to student account status allowed to defer enrollment until a set
period of time; stands for Leave of Absence.
P
Payment
Payments are required to change the status of an enrolling student from
assessed to enrolled.
Prerequisite
A subject or discipline that must be taken first before taking another
subject or discipline; a gatekeeper subject.
Publish
Action to commit a particular information (such as section, assessment,
payment, announcement) to the system.
R
Reports
Statistical information as well as tables and charts summarizing the
content and actions within the Grado System (such as number of intents,
number of enrolled etc).
Requirement
A course or a subject a student needs to take as defined in a degree
program's curriculum.
Reservation
Sections enlisted need to be reserved before requesting for assessment,
or in case of students marked as irregular, advisement.
Retro-Enrollment
Encoding previously taken sections with the corresponding grades.
Room
Associated with a section and defines the capacity of students that can
enroll to that section.
Room Type
Purely descriptive and can be modified in the Settings under the Setup
Module.
S
Scholarships
A module to keep track of students associated to a particular
scholarship program.
Section
A unit that defines a course’s schedule in a given academic term.
Section
A set or group of students based on a common academic characteristic,
usually degree program and year level; in
ver. 6-below, initially termed as "block" or "block section".
Semester
See Term.
Shift
Transfer from one degree program to another.
Slot
Capacity of students allowed to enroll in a particular section.
Specialization
An area of concentration, major, or field of study within a degree
program.
Student
A user registered to take, enlist, or enroll in a course for a
particular school period.
Standing year
Refers to the year level of the student based on progress in the
curriculum.
Subject
Synonymous with Course and refers to a branch of knowledge being
taught in an educational institution.
Subject Code
Subject identifier, such as Kas 1 or Fil 40; used interchangeably with
Course Code, Subject Number, Course Number.
T
Term
A period in a year, alternating with holiday or vacation, during which a
school, college, or university holds educational sessions; also known as
quarter, semester, etc.
Transmutation Matrix
Refers to a subject's grading system or rubric.
V
Visibility (Section)
Sections can either be private or public. If a section is under a block
and set to private, students who do not qualify to the criteria set in
the section block cannot see the sections.
